Downgrading From Photoshop Elements 6.0

As I’ve posted in the past, I currently use Photoshop Elements as my photo organization / editor of choice.  The main reasons for this is that it is a lowest cost product that has the features that I expect, such as hi-quality red-eye removal, and good raw image processing.  [Tangent on Picasa:  If they would just improve their red-eye removal to not have the red ring around the eye, allow multiple word keywords, and improve their raw image processing, I would use it instead.  I've commented on this to them several times, but it appears to fall of deaf ears].  Either way, I’ve been using Photoshop Elements since version 3.0, and I’m currently using Photoshop Elements 6.0.  That comes to where the level of grief with the product has come to an all time high.  While I’ve given them a pass on their slow organizer, and tagging, the new product introduces a significant number of bugs that have pushed me to a boiling point.  The problems range from, but are not excluded to: not being able to save edited images as a version (because the option is always greyed out), to getting it into a state where it won’t update the image (from the low quality thumbnail), and the horrible increase organizer slowness.  This evening I finally searched online on the subject matter, since Adobe never releases updates for their Elements tools other than the Camera Raw plug-in, and found several instances where people have run into the exact same problems.  In fact in one specific forum post, a commenter noted that they used Photoshop Elements 5.0 for organization, and Photoshop Elements 6.0 for editing.  While this sounds a little silly, I can understand as the editor in elements 6 is much improved, and isn’t really the source of the bugs that I’m having issues with.  So, I have decided that I’m going to attempt downgrading to see if I can alleviate some of my photo management anxiety.  It’s moments like these that I really wish I had the funds to purchase Lightroom.
