Lingo: All’s Well & Ends Well

Just recently I had posted about some of the start-up problems I’ve had with Lingo. To make a long story short, I was having problems with my 5.8ghz wireless phones working with the new service (it wouldn’t ever hang up). So, today – thanks to an extra day off from work – I gave Lingo a call and requested that I speak with a supervisor, because I still had problems with their explanation of using wireless phones less than 3.8ghz.

When I was transfered to the supervisors, after a few minutes of discussing my problem, we came to the conclusion that they misunderstood me when I had called before. In my previous calls, the Lingo customer service rep. thought I was using a Internet/Wireless phone base (that was 5.8ghz). He said that they have had several cases where these units have had issues with there services, however using a standard telephone that just happens to be a 5.8ghz wireless phone base shouldn’t make any difference. At that point we agreed that simply trying a new phone would be worthwhile, since the phone base I currently have is one of the very first 5.8ghz phones that came out (I didn’t want to take any chances with my wireless home network).

So, this afternoon we ran over to Walmart and picked up a simple 2-phone 5.8ghz VTech phone set. Everything was working fine as soon as I replaced my existing base. I can call, and the phone hangs up properly afterwards. In fact, in a couple test calls I had to turn the volume down – which I’ve never had to do. So, I’m crossing my fingers that this was the only glitch in our first foray into VOIP services, because otherwise I’ve been quite happy with Lingo. Definitely something I would recommend to others…
