Well that was definitely odd. For almost the past week and half, I have been unable to access my own website via my cable Internet service from GEUS, while it’s been quick and responsive for anyone not connected to GEUS. GEUS, because they are such a small provider, outsources the actual Internet connection and support to another company. I had tried to call them early on, however I was once again reminded that they had no information on me because GEUS never setup my email address (which is the required step for the ISP actually knowing I exist… odd). Unfortunately GEUS follows banking hours, so I had to wait to give them a call to correct this. In the mean time I tried to verify simple things like other sites hosted by host go, including their main site, DNS cache, and a few other misc things. That following Monday, I got my email straightened out, and was finally able to call their support group (STILL unable to access my site). The support person agreed that it probably didn’t have to do with anything on my side after hearing all of things that I had already tried. Then, all of a sudden, in the middle of the phone call, I as able to access my site. The support person never said whether she did anything or not, she just asked if I still wanted her to troubleshoot my problem (Huh!?). I kept asking what changed, but never got a response out of her. Either way, despite the lackluster service, I am back online – and ready to roll.
Additionally, I do apologize to the couple of people who have asked on my posting of the Fortune Widget on how to create fortune files. I hope to have a post about that soon, since this is kind of an issue for non *nix users.
