It may be getting caught up, or it may be jumping on the band wagon. Either way I’ve just recently given a go at a few of the recent internet booms that I really haven’t even given second thought about.
The first being del.icio.us, which – again for those of you whom don’t know – is a place where you can easily create and tag (label) bookmarks to your favorite spots across the internet. The neat thing about del.icio.us is the fact that not only do you create your bookmarks, but you can see the book marks of other users based off the tags they used on the bookmark. So say for example I just recently tagged The VIM Quick Reference Card, with the tags linux, reference, tips, unix, vim, vi, editor. I then was able to look under the vim tag, and see hundreds of other bookmarks people have made to very similar places. Through this I easily found more extension examples of advaced functionality within vim. With search engines you have to have a concrete idea of what it is that your searching for, while del.icio.us gives you pointers in the right direction based of other peoples bookmarkings on the same subject matters. Lets just say I’ve actually been very impressed with how easy it is to use del.icio.us and how well it flows, and I plan to keep using it (as long as Yahoo! doesn’t goof it up). Oh, you can find my del.icio.us listhere.
Second, I got my wordpress blog attached to technorati now, so hopefully this means a little more “flow” as you may call it. Doesn’t really do a lot for people who already come here directly, but it may stear some readers my way based on searches at technorati.
Last, and not least, I’ve played around with Flickr just a little bit as I may use it as another place to post at least my favorite photo’s for now, of course with links back here in case browsers are ever interested in seeing more. There is the possibility of paying to have more storage, which could replace my photo gallery… but I really like having my own control over that large of a gallery… I dunno we’ll see.
Anyways, I’ll mention a little more of what I think of all these as I get more time with them…
