Well, here comes probably the one of the biggest catch up articles to ever hit this blog. To sum it up simply, I’ve accepted a job offer with L-3 Communications : Integrated Systems in Greenville, Texas as a Software Engineer. Unfortunately, as you can already read, this does translate into the first major relocation of my life! For those of you who don’t know me too well, I’ve have never lived anywhere other than Colorado Springs… I was born in Penrose Hospital for gods sake. Even when we spent months out with Grandparents for harvest, it was still well within the confines of the Colorado state boarder. Not to mention the fact that I’m leaving all my friends and family behind while we head down to the “Lone Star State”. This aspect is the hardest part of it all, as family and friends are one of the most important things in my life.
Despite the loses, the advantage of heading for Greenville, is the huge career advacement (as we all kinda knew that I probably wasn’t going to go much farther than I already was at ATK Mission Research), lower cost of living, and being in smaller town to raise our children. Of course our children and my family that I’m trying to support is the main reason for going. Stability at ATK Mission Research : Colorado Springs was something that I could not depend on. I don’t fault anyone at ATK:MR for that situation, as many of the reasons for their current state are out of their control.
Unfortunately, on the other side of the coin, I ended up with many companies that I submitted resume’s to not even giving me call back, let alone an interview. Until, oddly enough, I received a phone call from L-3:GIS during the middle of Lena’s labor. I was able to call back later that afternoon, and left a message for my caller that I was a little busy. Luck would have it that after a phone interview, they were interested in meeting with me in person. You can pretty much figure out the rest from there.
Things moved very quickly from the point that I accepted the job offer. Lena and I hopped down to Greenville for the three day house hunting trip, and then we came back to prep the house for the movers and for selling. The movers were in and out in two days, which is just weird for me since I’ve never had someone doing it all for me. That following weekend I left by car, with the two cats, to Greenville, Texas.
Since the house isn’t going to close until early July, I’m having to make use of the temporary living assistance (which translates to living out of a hotel) for at least three weeks. But, things are slowly being worked out, and hopefully we’ll be able to get Lena and Meara down here as soon as the house closes.
Well see… All I can say at this point is that so far I’m liking the job, and I’m continually excited as I get deeper into the project that I’ll be working on. One can only hope that it stays that way
