Recently, the company that I work for added an employee purchase program through Dell where I can get anything off their site at a decent discount. Additionally, you can choose to make the purchase against a no interest loan which is payed by a small deduction from each paycheck. Despite the discount, I couldn’t justify spending any more money on a new system when I had just recently upgraded my main desktop. So, the few options that popped up were a new LCD flatscreen for the computer, a MP3 Jukebox, or a high end digital camera. So after debating the need of a 20″ screen on my PC, or whether I want to dump my OGG music collection since Dell’s DJ doesn’t support it, or if I wanted to get more of an enthusiast camera to play with. Originally I started towards an SLR digital camera as I do have a couple Minolta lenses. After doing some more research on the fact that my lenses won’t work any more I started to wonder if it was really worth the money as my two options in my mind were the Canon EOS 20D body with a 18mm-135mm lens or the Olympus C-8080 (which is not SLR). Both had 8megapixels (give or take .2), they both had about the same zooming capacity, and both made use of compact flash (with xD with the Olympus). Feature for feature they were pretty danged close but the Canon was going to cost almost $1000 more. So I went with the Olympus. Other factors that convinced me also include input from Shewmakers, and the reviews provided for both camera’s on DPReview.com (Olympus C-8080 – Canon EOS 20D). Cannot what for the thing to show up so I can start to play.
