This morning I’ve posted a few screenshots of the latest release of OpenOffice.org Ximian Edition into the gentoo portage tree (1.3.8 in ~x86). I haven’t had a chance to read the changelogs for this project for a while, but one major feature change that I’ve noticed is the use of the DM’s file widget for opening and saving as opposed to the one built into open office. This allows for the extra functionality created by the most recent open/save file widgets/objects created by KDE and Gnome (IE, short cuts on the side, a layout and theme consistant with the DM, and VFS/KIO functionality). I could go on for a while about the advantages of this, but that’s for another post. Either way, the shots are there showing OOoXE 1.3.8 in both KDE (3.3.2) and in Gnome (2.8.2). Oh… Almost forgot, I have noticed a “perceived” performance increase (sorry don’t have any numbers to prove right or wrong).
