Gentoo 2004.3

I know, I know… This has been out for half a week already, but I thought I’d go ahead and post a quickie mentioning a noticable improvement that I found with the latest release. Grub’s ability to properly see SATA drives, allowing for installation that followes the Gentoo Installation Handbook. Previously, on my building server, I had to install grub to the HDD mbr via the version on the live cd, as the version installed on the built system could not see sda or (hd0,0) until I was actually in the system. Well of course this creates a paradox because you cannot actually boot into the system until you’ve installed your bootloader, and I couldn’t install the bootloader until I was in the system. Slight work-around that worked ok because I updated the version of grub on the mbr as soon as I was booted (using the version from the livecd), BUT for those who don’t know to look for little tricks like that probably would find this to be a very serious issue. Either way, I’ve been fairly impressed other than that I am also duplicating the “error calling: “unlinking” in “GLOBAL”" error…. which I have yet to find whether it’s the UDEV-043 that’s causing it or what…
