Today I started work on my new laptop, and as always I took this opportunity to learn and teach myself something new. I have finally mastered the genkernel command and I am now using it for all of my kernel compilation needs (FYI, the busybox response to kernel failures is REALLY NICE!!!). So as a result I have played with the bootsplash capabilities of 2.6 and I am now in the process of creating a bootsplash theme to post onto KDE-LOOK.org. I have permission from the maker of all wallpaper that I’m going to use for the background, and I should be done soon.
On top of all that I finally got my memory for my server (duron 700mhz) that I’m going to use for backup, music (edna), distcc and a few other misc tasks. I just want to give Gentoo a huge kudos for how well they’ve integrated distcc/ccache into emerge. Just as an example, I can compile bluefish in two minutes as opposed to ten.
On another note, here is a link to a website that has written very informative posts on configuring Linux / Gentoo: http://reviewed.homelinux.org
